Vodacom Life Insurance: Company Bio

Vodacom Life Insurance is offered by Vodacom, one of the largest mobile phone operators in South Africa. Vodacom South Africa is 55% owned by Vodafone, which in turn is one of the largest mobile phone operators in the world. With headquarters in Johannesburg, Vodacom SA has expanded to cover other African nations, such as Lesotho and DRC. The Chairman of Vodacom SA is Peter Moyo, and the CEO is Shameel Aziz Joosub. Though Vodacom is most famous for providing mobile services, the company do also provide insurance solutions for both life and funeral insurance, as well as cell phone and laptop insurance.

Where Is Vodacom Located?

You can find the headquarters of Vodacom at 47, Wierda Road East, Wierda Valley, Sandton 2146, Johannesburg. The company also has a mailing address, which is Private Bag X9904, Sandton 2146, Johannesburg.

Which Services Do Vodacom Provide?

As mentioned above, Vodacom are most notably a mobile phone operator, providing both cell phones and mobile service to customers. Vodacom insurance offerings are limited to cell phone and device insurance, as well as funeral and life insurance options.

Vodacom Life Insurance

Vodacom insurance options are very simple, and the company offers just two policies, one for life insurance and one for funeral insurance.

Vodacom Life Insurance Policy

If you opt for a Vodacom Life Insurance Policy, the features you will get are as follows:

  • Coverage is up to R10 million, though the Vodacom website did not list a minimum amount;

  • Policies are available to anyone between the ages of 18 and 65;

  • Premiums are based on personal circumstances, such as age, health status and other information, as well as how much coverage you would like, so different customers will pay different amounts;

  • There is a Cash Back option that gives you R1,000 every 24 months, as long as your premiums are up to date and you have made no claims on the policy;

  • No medical exams are required, though you will need to have a blood test.

Vodacom Funeral Insurance

The Vodacom funeral insurance option is just as simple as the Vodacom life insurance policy. The features are:

  • A pay out of up to R30,000 which can be used to pay for funeral expenses;

  • Premiums from R25 a month;

  • Immediate coverage for accidental death, and a six month waiting period for natural death, the Vodacom website does not list a waiting period for suicide, though many insurance companies require a longer waiting period for this;

  • No medical exams or blood tests are required;

  • This policy is only available for Vodacom cell phone customers.

Notice that both Vodacom life insurance and funeral insurance policies are extremely simple. There are no options to add other members to your policy, which are common with other insurance companies, and there are no additional options such as disability or serious illness coverage. These are both plain and simple policies, with no added extras.

How Are the Customer Reviews for Vodacom Life Insurance?

The customer review website hellopeter lists over 17,000 reviews of Vodacom over the last twelve months. The majority of these are negative. That said, it is important to note that since Vodacom is obviously better known for its cell phone services, the vast majority of reports are about just that, and we were unable to find reviews relating only to the company's insurance department – making it impossible to reach any conclusions about the companies level of customer service – if you have experience (good or bad) with the Vodacome Life Insurance – feel free to share here below in the comments section.

How User Friendly is vodacom.co.za?

The Vodacom website is mainly dedicated to cell phones and service, and even though we knew that there was a Vodacom life insurance option it was a bit tough to find information about it. However, when we eventually found the page we were pleased with how simply the policy was laid out and how easily it was explained. There were no technical life insurance terms and definitions, just plain language. Both policies are very straight forward, so the website didn't need to explain complicated features. Despite being difficult to find, information was practical and directed towards regular shoppers, rather than experts. This of course is a positive aspect worth mentioning.

Vodacom Life Insurance

Vodacom Life Insurance in a Nutshell

Vodacom life insurance and funeral insurance are both offered by the cell phone service provider Vodacom. Policies are very starightforward, making it easy to understand what you are paying for and what you are getting. If on the other hand you are looking for more options, or have a special condition, these policies might be a bit limited (unless more have been added since this review – September 2014). As for the level of customer service, we were unfortunately unable to reach any objective conclusions, seeing how the large majority of the reports were about the company's cellular services. Seeing how life insurance is such an important decision for you and your family, we suggest that you get at least 2 or 3 insurance quotes before making your decision. You can get up to 2 Free life insurance quotes by completing the form on the top right.
