Hollard Funeral Cover: About Hollard

Hollard funeral cover is a product offered by Hollard Insurance. Founded in 1980 by Robert Enthoven, Hollard Insurance in now the largest privately owned insurer in South Africa, according to the company website. Annual turnover is reported to be R15 billion (yes, billion, not million!). Hollard are a privately owned company, which means that their shareholders are not banks or institutions. The majority of the shares are held by the Enthoven family. The company itself offers customers a wide range of financial services, of which Hollard funeral cover is only one part. The current executive director of Hollard is Ian Ross, the CEO is Nicholas Kohler, and the company's board of directors includes company founder Robert Einhoven. In 2014, Hollard acquired Etana Insurance, increasing the company's share in the insurance market even further.

Where is Hollard Insurance Located?

You will find the head offices of Hollard Insurance at 22 Oxford Road, Parktown, Johannesburg.

Which Services Do Hollard Provide?

Hollard provide for a range of financial services, including investment as well as insurance. On the insurance front they offer business, personal, household and life insurance, as well as the option of a Hollard funeral insurance. They also have specific forms of insurance, such as antiques insurance.

The Hollard Funeral Plan

Hollard Funeral Insurance is simple. You apply for coverage and in the event of death a lump sum is paid out within 48 hours (provided that all the right paperwork is submitted with your claim). The important features of Hollard funeral cover (according to their website) are as follows:

  • Guaranteed acceptance of all South African nationals and legal residents between the ages of 18 and 75 with no medical examination;

  • Coverage from R10,000 to R50,000;

  • Immediate coverage for accidental death after your first premium is received (unfortunately, the Hollard website did not state how long the waiting period is for natural death coverage);

  • Coverage will generally increase by 6% each year, and monthly premiums will increase by 10% each year to keep your coverage in line with inflation;

  • Option to add up to R50,000 of coverage for your partner, as well as to add coverage of up to R20,000 for up to five children under the age of 21;

  • Possibility to add up to R20,000 of coverage for parents and parents-in-law if they are under the age of 75.

Additional Hollard Funeral Cover Benefits

In addition to the basic funeral policy, Hollard also offer extra optional benefits should you want them. These benefits will, of course, add to your monthly premiums. The Hollard funeral policy optional benefits are:

  • The Monthly Provider Benefit, which pays out R2,000 each month for 12 months after the death of the insured to help families pay for groceries and daily expenses;

  • The Life Cover Benefit, which allows you to add life insurance for you and your partner with coverage of up to R150,000 as long as you are under the age of 65;

  • The Memorial Benefit, which will pay out up to R10,000 a year after death to help families pay for memorials to the deceased;

  • The Vehicle Access Benefit, which offers a rental car for six days after death of the insured with unlimited mileage, any family member can be the designated driver;

  • The Personal Accident Benefit, which offers up to R100,000 in the case of accidental death or disability caused by an accident;

  • The Daily Hospital Benefit, which pays out up to R750 for each day you are in hospital for up to 180 days.

How Do Customer Reviews for Hollard Funeral Cover Look?

Unfortunately, Hellopeter (the website that allows customers to write reviews of service providers) does not list reviews specifically for Hollard funeral cover. They do, however, list reviews for Hollard Insurance as a whole. In the last year, 668 reviews have been posted, of which 584 are negative and 84 are positive. Negative reviews centred mostly around poor customer service and long waiting periods for claims to be processed, as well as claims being refused. However, since Hollard specifically states that funeral cover claims are paid out within 48 hours, it might be that these specific type of complaints do not apply to funeral cover customers. And whilst poor customer service is a common complaint, all the reviews on Hellopeter (both positive and negative) have a response from a Hollard customer service representative, which indicates that Hollard does make an effort to address these issues.

How User Friendly is the Hollard Insurance Website?

We have to say that we had a very satisfactory experience when looking for information about Hollard funeral cover. Hollard's website Hollard Funeral Cover Cr: A. Cleaver http://tinyurl.com/p4devpcwas easy to navigate and finding what we needed was simple. Information about Hollard funeral insurance was explained in comprehensive but easy to understand language, leaving us with a good idea of what the funeral coverage would entail. There were no technical life insurance terms and definitions used, meaning even the novice shopper could understand explanations. Perhaps the only thing that could be improved is that the typeface used on the website is a little small, making it harder to read for elderly people or people with bad eyesight. All in all, Hollard gave us a good user experience on their website.

Hollard Funeral Cover in a Nutshell

Hollard funeral cover is simple, and offers a selection of optional additional extras as well, so it's flexible. Whilst customer reviews on Hellopeter weren't the best, since those reviews were for all of Hollard's insurance options rather than just for funeral insurance, it seems unfair to judge the company's funeral policies based solely on these reviews. Hollard offer an easy to understand explanation of their policy on their website too, which is always nice. Don't forget, however, that you should always compare quotes when shopping for insurance, just to make sure that you're getting the best deal. Not all insurance companies offer specific funeral insurance, but many do and it's best to know what your options are. If you'd like to find out more about your options, then just click on the banner above or on the top right of our home page to get a handful of quotes.
