Dial Direct Insurance: Company Info

Dial Direct Insurance is an online insurance provider that is part of the Telesure group, which includes other insurance companies such as 1st for Women, Auto and General, Unity Insurance, Virgin Money Insurance, Prosper, Budget Insurance and more. Dial Direct gained experience in the insurance industry in the UK before launching Dial Direct Insurance South Africa in 2003. The company is managed by a board of directors headed by T.J. Creamer.

Where to Find Dial Direct Insurance

Along with many other Telesure Group companies, you'll find Dial Direct Insurance at Auto & General Park, 1 Telesure Lane, Riverglen, Dainfern, 2191.

Which Services are Provided by Dial Direct Insurance?

Dial Direct Insurance provide for a range of insurance policy needs, including vehicle, building, business, portable possession and home insurance, as well as life insurance options.

Life Insurance Options with Dial Direct Insurance

Dial Direct Insurance offers a variety of life insurance related products. There are two basic Dial Direct life insurance policies, as well as some additional policies that may be of interest to customers looking for life insurance. Basic life insurance with Dial Direct is marketed under the name Pure Life Cover.

Pure Life Cover Basic

The basic life insurance policy with Dial Direct Insurance will give you the following benefits:

  • A pay out of between R50,000 and R200,000, with higher pay outs requiring higher monthly premiums;

  • A pay out of R25,000 within 48 hours after a valid claim is made which can be used to help pay funeral expenses;

  • A terminal illness benefit which pays the full cover amount immediately if a terminal illness is diagnosed and life expectancy is less than 12 months;

  • There is immediate coverage for accidental death, with natural death and death by suicide covered after a two year waiting period;

  • Your premiums are fixed for two years, meaning your monthly payment will not change during this time;

  • Your coverage amount will not decrease as long as your policy is active;

  • The policy includes access to Expo-Sure, a confidential HIV testing and treatment programme, in case of accidental HIV exposure;

  • Coverage is for your whole life, and does not expire at a certain age.

Pure Life Cover Elevated

In addition, if you would like higher coverage and can pay higher monthly premiums, Dial Direct Insurance also offers an elevated life insurance option. This policy is identical to the basic policy, with the following exceptions:

  • The pay out is between R200,000 and R10 million, with higher pay out requiring more expensive monthly premiums;

  • Accidental and natural death are covered immediately, though death by suicide coverage still has a two year waiting period;

  • There is a Guaranteed Assurability option, which means that you can increase your coverage amount if you have a change in lifestyle, such as a new job, for example.

Dial Direct Insurance also offers several other policies that are connected to life insurance. These are listed below.

Dial Direct Occupation Based Disablement

This policy is designed to protect you financially if an accident occurs and you are no longer able to work. The key points of the policy are:

  • A pay out of between R200,000 and R10 million (with larger pay out requiring higher monthly premiums) if you become permanently disabled and are unable to perform your job or another job for which you are qualified;

  • Your other life insurance policies will not be affected if a pay out is made;

  • Coverage is immediate;

  • Your coverage amount will not decrease until either five years before you turn 65 or when you retire;

  • The Guaranteed Assurability option means that you can increase your coverage if you have a change of circumstance, such as a new job;

  • There is an option to add a disablement premium waiver option which will pay your regular life insurance premiums or dread disease policy (see below) premiums for up to five years after a disablement pay out has been made.

Dial Direct Event Based Disablement

Dial Direct Insurance Event Based Disablement is identical to the above Occupation Based disablement policy with two differences:

  • Coverage is between R50,000 and R10 million, and pay out is a percentage of your coverage depending on how serious your disablement is, for example if you become blind in one eye you will receive 50% of your coverage as a pay out;

  • The policy contains no age restrictions, and coverage amount does not decrease five years before you turn 65 or when you retire

Dial Direct Dread Disease

This policy is designed to give financial security in the event that a serious disease is diagnosed. On their website, Dial Direct mention heart attack, cancer, loss of vision or organ failure, though we could not find a full list of the diseases covered. The key points of this policy are:

  • Coverage is between R50,000 and R4 million, and a percentage will be paid out depending on how serious the diagnosed disease is;

  • If the full pay out is made, your other life insurance options won't be affected;

  • There is a Guaranteed Assurability option so that you can increase you coverage if your life circumstances change;

  • Coverage is for your whole life.

Dial Direct Personal Accident Insurance

Dial Direct also offer personal accident insurance to give you financial security in case of an accident. The features of this policy are:

  • You can choose the amount of your coverage, with more coverage costing higher monthly premiums;

  • Pay out will be in the form of a tax-free lump sum in case of an accident;

  • Hospitalisation will be covered from the first day of a hospital stay for up to two years;

  • There is also the possibility of a discount if you add your partner to your policy.

There are several optional additions you can make to this policy, including the ability to add coverage for your children, the ability to add Road Protect (a service which provides help in the case of road accidents), and the ability to add Expo-Sure access in case of accidental HIV exposure.

Dial Direct Funeral Plan

This policy is designed to help pay funeral costs in the event of the policy holder's death. The key points of the plan are:

  • Coverage includes death caused by HIV related illnesses;

  • In the event of accidental death, coverage is doubled;

  • Coverage is available for anyone up to the age of 80;

  • There is a repatriation service, which will pay the costs of transporting the deceased anywhere within South Africa.

Unfortunately, we couldn't find any information about the amount of coverage offered on Dial Direct's website. Presumably the amount of coverage will depend on how much your monthly premiums are, but there was no indication of upper or lower limits.

How Do the Customer Reviews for Direct Dial Insurance Look?

A look at Hellopeter, a website for customer reviews, shows 1252 reports about Dial Direct Insurance in the last twelve months. Of these reviews, 872 are positive, meaning that Dial Direct has an overal 69% positive rating. This is encouraging for potential customers. The negative reviews mentioned poor customer service and feedback from the company. However, nearly every review was commented on by a Dial Direct representativea and as mentioned, the overall rating was a positive one.

How User Friendly is the Dial Direct Website?

The Dial Direct website was easy to navigate, and there's plenty of information about the various policies that the company offers. In Dial Direct Insurancegeneral, finding the information we needed was easy, and when we found that information it was explained clearly and simply. The only small negative point was that we did not find a list of diseases covered in the Dread Disease policy, which could be useful for potential customers, nor could we find information about the amount of coverage for the funeral plan. Other than that, the Dial Direct website was a positive experience.

Dial Direct Insurance in a Nutshell

Therefore, our suggestion to you is that you should always read about the company you are thinking of getting the policy with, ask a friend or two if they have had a good experience with them and always try to get at least 2 quotes so that you can compare. You can get up to 2 Free life insurance quotes by simply filling in the form at the top right of the home page.
