Clientele Funeral Cover

Clientele Funeral Cover: Company Bio

Clientele funeral cover is a policy offered by Clientele Life, which is the insurance division of the Clientele Limited Group (a financial services provider that has traded on the South African market for twenty years). As a group holding company, Clientele Limited controls many companies, including investment and loan subsidiaries and Clientele Mobile, as well as Clientele Life. The current non-executive chairman of Clientele Life is Gavin Quentin Routledge, and the group managing director is Basil William Reekie.

Where is Clientele Located?

You will find the headquarters of Clientele Life (plus the headquarters of all the Clientele Limited Group companies) at: Clientele Office Park, at the corner of Rivnoia and Alon Road, Morningside, 2196.

What Services Do Clientele Provide?

As a holding company, Clientele provide for a range of services, including loans, investments, property services and mobile phone plans. Clientele Life offers insurance options, including life insurance, hospital and legal insurance, and Clientele Life funeral cover.

Clientele Funeral Cover

Clientele funeral cover is sold under the name “Clientele Funeral Dignity Plan,” and consists of one policy that can be changed in terms of coverage, number of members covered, and premiums, in order to fit your needs. The main features of Clientele funeral cover are:

  • Coverage of up to R50,000, with monthly premiums starting at R120 (higher coverage means higher premiums, however);

  • Coverage is paid out within 24 hours of a valid claim being made;

  • Clientele funeral cover can include up to 13 people on one policy (you, your spouse, up to 3 children, and up to 8 extended family members such as parents or in-laws);

  • Accidental death is covered immediately (the Clientele funeral cover website does not mention the waiting period until natural death is covered, however with most insurance companies there is a waiting period, generally of a few months);

  • If the main member insured on a Clientele funeral plan dies due to accident the coverage amount is doubled (this does not apply to other members insured on the same plan);

  • A grocery benefit of R3,000 is paid after the death of an insured, payable in cash or vouchers;

  • R200 of mobile phone credit will be paid after the death of an insured member to help pay phone bills whilst making funeral arrangements;

  • An R2,000 transport benefit will be paid after the death of an insured member to help pay travel costs to the funeral location;

  • An R2,000 memorial unveiling benefit will be paid when you are ready to place a tombstone or other memorial to the deceased (this often happens months after a funeral);

  • Members have access to a 24 hour helpline to help with funeral arrangements and planning.

One more thing to note about Clientele funeral cover is that unlike many insurance companies, Clientele actually pay out more than the coverage amount after death. When a valid claim is made, Clientele will pay out the coverage amount you have selected, but will also return all premiums paid to insure the deceased (if more than one person is insured with Clientele funeral cover the premiums returned will be only those paid for the deceased member, not for all members).

What Do Consumer Reviews for Clientele Funeral Cover Look Like?

The customer review site Hellopeter, which allows consumers to review service providers, lists 247 reviews of Clientele Life from the last 12 months. 28 of these were compliments, whilst 219 were complaints. The majority of complaints (30%) fell under the heading of billing and accounts. There are a few things to keep in mind here, however. Firstly, consumers are always more likely to complain than to compliment. Secondly, these reviews are for all Clientele Life's insurance services, not just for Clientele funeral cover (although it's likely that consumers have the same experience no matter which kind of insurance they're buying). Thirdly, Clientele Life representatives have responded to all reviews, whether positive or negative, and 45% of customers said that they were “very impressed” or “impressed” by the response they received. In fact, many complaints were changed to compliments after Clientele Life's response, which speaks highly of their customer service ethic.

The Clientele Life website in general was easy to navigate and well laid out, making it simple to find what we needed. We found the Clientele funeral cover page to be easy to read, giving a nice overview of the policy without too much technical language. There is also a link to download the full Clientele funeral cover brochure if you would like more information. The only small problem that we had was that we couldn't find information about waiting periods for coverage (as mentioned above), something that could be important for potential buyers to know. However, on the whole, Clientele did a nice job of explaining their funeral cover option without being overwhelming.

Clientele Funeral Cover in Summary

Clientele Funeral Cover is one simple policy, that lets you cover up to 13 people, and has flexible coverage and premium amounts, as well as extras such as a grocery benefit and mobile phone credit. Interestingly, Clientele funeral cover pays out not just the coverage amount, but also the premiums that have been paid once a valid claim is made (which means more money for beneficiaries). Whilst consumer reviews for Clientele weren't very positive, it was nice to see that customer service agents not only responded to reviews, but in many cases responded so well that consumers changed their original negative reviews to positive ones. With so many funeral insurance companies around, deciding on the best policy for you and your family isn't always easy. We do always recommend getting a few quotes and reading a few reviews before making your final decision, since comparison shopping is likely to save you money. You can start this process by clicking on the banner above (or on the top right of our home page) to get a handful of free insurance quotes.
