Absa Funeral Cover: Company Bio

Absa Funeral Cover is offered to customers through Absa bank, a subsidiary of the Barclays Africa Group. Though the company has always offered a range of financial services, including investment and banking services, it's only since 1998 that all of the company's services were united under the brand name Absa. Absa South Africa is currently headed by David Hodnett and Maria Ramos.

Where is Absa Insurance Located?

The headquarters for Absa Bank, which includes the offices of Absa Insurance, are located on the 7th floor of Barclays Towers West, 15 Troye Street, Johannesburg, 2001. You can also contact the company through their postal address, which is: P.O. Box 7735, Johannesburg, 2000.

What Services Do Absa Provide?

Absa offer full banking services, as well as other financial services such as investment and pension planning. On the insurance front they offer a variety of both long and short term insurance policies, including home and vehicle insurance. Absa Funeral Cover is part of the Absa Life Insurance range of products.

Absa Funeral Cover

Like all funeral cover policies, an Absa funeral plan is designed to provide coverage for funeral expenses in the event of death. This is different from a life insurance policy, as you will see on our Life Insurance Questions and Answers page. The features of Absa Funeral Cover are as follows:

  • Coverage from a minimum of R6,000 to a maximum of R50,000;

  • Available to customers between the ages of 16 and 65;

  • The policy is a whole life policy, meaning that as long as you keep paying premiums it will not expire;

  • It's possible to cover you, your spouse and children and up to eight extended family members (such as parents or parents in law) on the same policy;

  • Should the main insured die in an accident, pay out will be doubled;

  • There is the ability to choose different plans for premium increases and coverage increases over time (the Absa website does not specify these plans, however).

What Do Customers Think of Absa Funeral Cover?

Hellopeter, the website that shows customer reviews of service providers, lists 6371 reports about Absa over the last year. These reviews are about all of Absa's services, not just about Absa Insurance and certainly not only about Absa Funeral Cover. Of these reviews 5663 were complaints which is relatively high compared to other insurance companies that we've reviewed. However, it is important to note that many of the reports were about Absa's banking services and not necessarily Absa's insurance department, so it is hard to tell what the Absa level of customer service really is. Some of the reports had a response from an Absa representative, but many others went unawsered.

How User Friendly is the Absa Website?

The Absa website was a very user friendly experience in general. Menus on the top of the page made navigation easy, and it was a Absa Funeral Covermatter of one click to get to the Absa Funeral Cover page. There was enough information about each policy to make comparisons easy, but not so much that it was overwhelming, and there were few technical life insurance terms and definitions used. The website even had the option of enlarging text to make it easier to read.

Absa Funeral Cover in a Nutshell

Absa Funeral Cover, a product offered by Absa Bank, offers a comprehensive set of options to make sure that the insured has coverage for funeral expenses. Consumer reviews of Absa aren't fantastic, but Hellopeter does list reviews for all of Absa's products, not just for Absa Funeral Cover. The company website did provide plenty of info and made shopping easy, which is good news if you're a first time insurance shopper. It is important, however, that you consider your options when it comes to funeral cover, and that means getting quotes from more than one company. We've made this simple for you: just click on the above banner or complete one of the forms on this website you'll get up to 2 Free insurance quotes.
